Find Relief in a Breast Reduction in Sydney With A/Prof Damian Marucci

Society tries to teach us that bigger is better – bigger homes, bigger food portions, and bigger breasts. Yet any woman who has endured the weight of large breasts and the strain they can put on your neck, back, and shoulders, will know that bigger breasts aren’t always better. These women may elect for breast reduction in Sydney with A/Prof Damian Marucci.

What is breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction is a surgical means of removing some of the volume from the breasts. Some women may experience excessively large breasts naturally that may result in unnecessary strain on the body. This weight may cause pain in the back, neck, and shoulders, making every day life difficult. Some women with large breasts also experience problems with rashes in the fold underneath the breast. There can also be problems finding clothes that fit and exercising. The goal of a breast reduction is to decrease the weight and improve the shape of the breast. Breast reduction restores comfort and prevents further health problems. Because of the nature of breast reduction, your health insurance may cover some of the costs of the procedure.

Am I a good candidate for a breast reduction?

If the size and weight of your breasts is causing you unnecessary pain and difficulty, you may be a good candidate for breast reduction in Sydney. Ideal candidates will be healthy non-smokers with a clear expectation for the surgery.

During your consultation, Dr. Marucci will evaluate the size and position of your breasts to determine if breast reduction is right for you. A recent mammogram is advisable if you are over the age of 40.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Patients will be placed under general anesthesia prior to the operation. Breast reduction surgery can be performed in a number of ways. Dr. Marucci will determine which method is best for your individual needs. An incision will be made in a circular, keyhole, or anchor-shaped pattern to eliminate excess tissue and reposition as needed. After the incision is made, mass and tissue are removed from the breast. The nipple is moved to its new position with the blood and nerve supply carefully protected. Rarely, in very large reductions, a free nipple graft is needed. Sutures are used within the breast to maintain the new shape. The incision site is closed together with dissolvable sutures and surgical adhesive to form a smaller and newly reshaped breast. You will wake up wearing a bra with no underwire with literally a huge weight off your chest.

What is the recovery process like?

Some swelling and bruising is expected following the surgery. An elastic and soft bra will be used to reduce swelling and to help the breasts adjust to their new size and should be worn day and night for two weeks. You will be able to shower from the following day. The surgery can either be performed as day surgery or you can spend a night in hospital if you wish. Dr. Marucci will provide you with all care instructions and any necessary medications following the operation. The scars are permanent but will reduce in visibility over time. Follow up visits will be scheduled for two weeks, two months, and six to twelve months out to ensure proper healing.
